Sean Connery's Official Cause of Death Revealed

Sir Sean Connery, best known for being the first person to portray James Bond in a movie, died at his home in the Bahamas at age 90, on October 31.

Now, almost a month after Connery passed away, we finally know what caused it.

According to certificate documents obtained by TMZ, the iconic actor passed away in his sleep out of heart failure due to pneumonia and old age,

The documents stated that he died from atrial fibrillation — an irregular and often rapid heart rate that can cause poor blood flow — old age, and pneumonia.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the actor's ashes were to be scattered in his home country of Scotland.

Connery’s widow, Micheline Roquebrune, 91, who was married to the actor for 45 years, told the Scottish Mail that the actor's final wish was to bring him back to Scotland.

"He wanted his ashes to be scattered in the Bahamas and also in his homeland," added Roquebrune.

She stated that his family would like this to happen just as soon as the coronavirus restrictions end, noting: "Whenever it is possible and safe to travel again, then it is the family’s intention to return to Scotland with him,".

Connery was born on August 25, 1930. He was an international star, who earned an Academy Award as well as multiple Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille and Henrietta Awards, and two British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) awards.

In addition to his role as the first James Bond in "Dr. No", the iconic actor was best known for his roles in "The Untouchables," "The Rock", and "Murder on the Orient Express".

Connery made his acting debut in 1954's "Lilacs in the Spring." He also held minor roles on television before his first leading role came in 1957's "Blood Money."

After Connery appeared in six more Bond films, following his role in "Dr.No", which included: "From Russia with Love," "Goldfinger," "Thunderball," "You Only Live Twice,", "Diamonds are Forever", and "Never Say Never Again."

in 1987, he starred in Brian de Palma's "The Untouchables", which earned him a supporting actor Oscar.

In 2002, Connery was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. The iconic actor officially retired from acting in 2006, although he briefly returned for voice over roles in 2012.
