Judy Reyes is set to reprise the role of Carla Espinosa in the ABC comedy series "Scrubs,” currently in the works at ABC.
She joins previously announced returning cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.
Reyes will appear in a recurring guest star role as Carla. The role expands Reyes’ relationship with ABC, as she also currently appears in the broadcaster’s procedural drama “High Potential.”
Her other recent TV credits include “Dr. Death,” “The Horror of Dolores Roach,” “Better Things,” “Devious Maids,” and “Claws.”
In film, Reyes has starred in features like “The Circle,” “Birth/Rebirth,” and “Turtles All the Way Down.”
The official logline for the new “Scrubs” states, “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”
Fellow “Scrubs” alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as executive producers and showrunners on the revival of the series, with Bill Lawrence executive producing via Doozer along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.
Braff, Faison, and Chalke are also executive producing in addition to starring. 20th Television is the studio.
Lawrence remains under his overall deal at Warner Bros. Television, with that studio carving out room for Lawrence to work with his former studio partners on “Scrubs.”
The new “Scrubs” was first reported to be in early development in December 2024, while Braff’s return was first reported in May.
The show originally aired on NBC for its first seven seasons from 2001-2008, followed by two seasons at ABC from 2009-2010.
The single-cam comedy took place at Sacred Heart Hospital and followed the interns, doctors, nurses, and the Janitor through their day-to-day lives at the hospital.
Along with Braff, Faison, Chalke, and Reyes the cast included Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn.
