“Scream 7,” the latest entry in the long-running horror franchise will hit theaters on February 27, 2026, after a slew of production delays, creative overhauls, and cast shakeups.

The announcement was made on social media by Neve Campbell, who is returning to the franchise after sitting out the sixth installment due to a salary dispute, and Kevin Williamson, the creator of the series and the director of the sequel.

The pic has the date to itself — no other major releases are slated to premiere against the “Scream” sequel. The following weekend will see the release of “The Cat in the Hat” and Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers,” both of which are aimed at family crowds.

Off-screen drama has swirled around the seventh installment ever since the project was announced. Melissa Barrera, who starred in the previous two entries, was fired from the PC last year over comments she made on social media about the Israel-Hamas war.

Jenna Ortega, who co-starred with Barrera, had also dropped out of the movie due to her shooting schedule for season 2 of Netflix’s “Wednesday.”

Furthermore, Christopher Landon, the director of “Happy Death Day,” exited the project in December of 2023, calling it “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.” He was replaced as director by Williamson.

Production was also held up due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film, which Spyglass Media is producing. After a lull following the 2011 release of “Scream 4,” the franchise was successfully rebooted with 2022’s “Scream” and 2023’s “Scream VI,” both were helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Guy Busick, a staple of the series reboots, will write “Scream 7.” Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are producing with Radio Silence serving as executive producers.
