"Scream 5" successfully relaunched the franchise when it opened in January. To date, it has allocated $62.6 million at the U.S. box office and has a combined global haul of $106.7 million, a strong showing amid theatrical challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The movie took place twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer takes the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

"Scream 5" saw the return of many beloved characters such as Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, and David Arquette’s Deputy Dewey Riley.

It also featured newcomers Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Sonia Ammar, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Reggie Conquest.

The 2022 movie was the franchise's first installment not directed by the late Wes Craven.

The Scream franchise launched in 1996, with writer Williamson and director Craven creating a generation-defining horror movie.
