The “Scary Movie” reboot from the Wayans brothers is coming to theaters on June 12, 2026.

The brothers are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write an original script for the restart of the horror parody franchise, writing and producing the حهؤ alongside Rick Alvarez.

“Scary Movie” (2000) was one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all time. The film opened at $42.5 million at the box office, which was the biggest debut for an R-rated horror movie and a Black director at that time. The “Scary Movie” film franchise was developed by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans scripted and starred in the first two films. This will be the sixth entry in the franchise.

Miramax is the studio behind the franchise and Paramount Pictures is releasing worldwide. “Scary Movie” is part of Paramount’s first look deal with Miramax.

Marlon Wayans shared the release date on his Instagram, teasing, “Mark your calendars…”.

He previously opened up about Harvey Weinstein’s role in “stealing” the franchise from his family during a September appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, citing a “crappy” deal with Miramax for the first film as the foundation for troubles to come.

For “Scary Movie 3,” Miramax enlisted the Zucker brothers to direct from ideas by the Wayans brothers. The brothers were not involved in the fourth or fifth films.

“You can’t do Wayans s**t without the Wayans,” he said. “You can try, but eventually you’re gonna lose a lot of money because what we do is special. We have 200 years of comedy between me, Shawn and Keenan, Damon, Kim. We have a lot of years of excellence of what we do. You can’t just put anybody on them.”
