Scarlett Johansson to Star in Ari Aster’s Next Movie "Scapegoat"

Scarlett Johansson will star in “Scapegoat,” the next movie from writer-director Ari Aster.

The “Hereditary” and “Eddington” filmmaker will reunite with A24, who has released his past four films, as the distributor.

Aster, whose star-studded satire "Eddington" premiered at Cannes last year, and his partner Lars Knudsen will produce through their Square Peg banner.

As is the case with all Aster films, plot details are being kept under wraps — a hallmark of Aster’s films since his Sundance sensation “Hereditary” announced him as a master of suffocating suspense.

Johansson has just wrapped production on “The Exorcist” at Universal, a new take on the classic possession story from director Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House,’ “The Life of Chuck”).

She is also starring alongside Adam Driver in the latest drama from James Grey, “Paper Tiger,” set to bow at next week’s Cannes Film Festival.

The Oscar nominee also has a voice role in “Ray Gunn,” an animated sci-fi noir from Brad Bird and Skydance Animation.

Johansson is coming off an equally busy 2025 that included helping relaunched the "Jurassic World" franchise with "Jurassic World: Rebirth", which hit theaters in July and went on to gross $868M worldwide and has a sequel in the works.

The multi-hyphenate recently made her directorial debut with the Sony Pictures Classics drama "Eleanor the Great," which world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
