The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) inaugurated on Friday the largest dredger in the Middle East. It was named after Field Marshal Hussein Tantawy, within the framework of the Authority’s continuing celebrations of the glorious victories of October 6 victory.
This comes upon President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to work on maximizing the authority’s assets and develop and modernize the fleet of dredges and marine units affiliated with it, in the framework of the implementation of SCA`s strategy 2023.
Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, SCA Chairman said that the Suez Canal is inaugurating today the Dredger Hussein Tantawy, in the presence of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Dutch IHC Company, and Salah Abu Muslim, Director of the Authority’s Supply Department.
Rabie added that the authority had contracted with the Dutch company "IHC" to build two dredgers (Mohab Mamish and Hussein Tantawy) to support its naval fleet.
Rabie pointed out that the first dredger was launched on May 15, while the second dredger was inaugurated today.
The SCA head expressed his appreciation to all those who partcipatef in building the two dredgers for their dedication to continue building it according to the agreed schedule and specifications despite the exceptional circumstances caused by the global outbreak of the Coronavirus, which proves IHC's outstanding professionalism in establishing mega projects.
The event is taking place at the Krimpen Shipyard of the Royal Dutch IHC Company, which is classified as the largest global arsenal. It is specializing in dredger construction.
