Suez Canal Tunnels to Operate 24 Hours for First Time

Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority announced that it all four tunnels of the Suez Canal, namely the Long Live Egypt tunnels in Ismailia, and the July 3 tunnels in Port Said, will operate 24 hours for the first time starting August 9.

In addition to this, the tunnel of Martyr Ahmed Hamdy, which operates 24 hours, will be partially stopped on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays for only 6 hours from 2:00 am until 8:00 am to complete the maintenance and development work.

Rabie added in a statement that the tunnels of the Suez Canal were scheduled to operate from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm during the curfew.

He indicated that the new schedule comes within the framework of implementing the directives of the political leadership to link Sinai with the New Valley and relieve the burden on the citizens' as they cross between the two banks of the canal and serve development projects in the region.

It is noteworthy that Rabie witnessed last Thursday, the authority's celebration of the five-year anniversary of the opening of the new Suez Canal, in the presence of members of the Authority’s board of directors, representatives of shipping lines and a group of public figures at the new marina headquarters east of the canal.
