The famous Moroccan singer Samira Said is celebrating her 66th birthday today. Said was born in Rabat, Morocco in 1958 and is considered one of the most talented singers in the Middle East. At the young age of nine, she presented her first original song "I Love Noodles".
Said was discovered on the Moroccan TV music program "Mawaheb" and later moved to Egypt where she gained widespread fame. She mainly sings in the Egyptian dialect and has recorded many hits that achieved great success in Egypt, such as "Mahassalsh Haga", "Youm Wara Youm", "Ben Lef", "Sayidati Sadati", "Malich 3inwan", and "Akher Hawa".
In 1980, Said represented Morocco in the Eurovision Song Contest with the hit song "Bitaqat Hub". More recently, in 2000, she released the song "Lilah Habeebee" which went on to win the best video award in the Arab world in 2001 at the Cairo Arabic Music Festival.
At the 15th annual World Music Awards in 2003, Said won a World Music Award based on worldwide sales figures for that year.
She has won over 40 awards, including the BBC Award for World Music for Best Artist in the Middle East with her album "Youm Wara Youm".
