Due to the 1,200-acre fire raging in the Pacific Palisades, the Screen Actors Guild has canceled the 31st annual live SAG Awards nominations announcement planned for Wednesday morning at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
The nominations for awards honoring the best performances in movies and television will be unveiled on January 8 at 7:30 PT via a press release instead of at a live event hosted by Joey King and Cooper Koch.
“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been canceled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,” the SAG wrote in a statement. “Nominees will be unveiled tomorrow at 7:30am PT via press release and the SAG Awards website. We look forward to celebrating these incredible actors and their work at the SAG Awards ceremony on February 23. In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay safe, and thank you for your continued support.”
Homes and structures are burning in a pair of wind-swept fires in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles and Altadena, a neighborhood near Pasadena, California.
Kristen Bell will host the 31st annual awards ceremony, which will stream live on Netflix on February 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
The SAG Awards are a reliable Oscar bellwether for the acting and best picture categories.
The fires have led to the cancellation of several entertainment events, including Wednesday’s premiere of the Robbie Williams biopic “Better Man,” a premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s “Unstoppable” movie, and the premiere of Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror film “Wolf Man.”
