Ryan Reynolds lit the summer box office on fire this year as both an actor and producer with Marvel Studios’ "Deadpool and Wolverine", the third entry of his subversive goofball superhero franchise — and the first to be produced by Disney after it acquired 20th Century Fox.

The third installment saw Reynolds reunite with Hugh Jackman, with the latter coming out of retirement as Wolverine one more time in the movie to reprise the role he had played for the final time in Logan back in 2017.

"Deadpool and Wolverine" broke several box office records in 2024. Grossing over $1.3 billion at the global box office, the hit sequel quickly became the highest-grossing R-rated of all time.

However, Reynolds doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to follow it up with another installment in the franchise.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Merc with a Mouth" actor recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of making Deadpool 4, and a Deadpool Wolverine sequel.

Since Deadpool entered the MCU, fans have been speculating as to where the character might pop up next in the cinematic universe. However, Ryan Reynolds’ recent comments about Deadpool 4 suggest that the sequel might not happen soon.

When asked about the fourth entry, Reynolds described the time he spent working on "Deadpool and Wolverine" as “One of the best times of my life and a memory palace in my mind that I visit every day.”

However, he cast doubt about a sequel and said, “I don’t know what the future holds just yet. As for Deadpool & Wolverine, I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool.”

Reynolds described Deadpool — the alter ego of Wade Wilson, a disfigured Canadian mercenary with superhuman regenerative healing abilities — as “a great supporting or ensemble player” rather than a potential lead for future movies.

However, the actor also said that he wants to pair Deadpool and Wolverine again in future projects, but doesn’t want to center the plot of a sequel around Deadpool again as he “can’t really do that again” and “a fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant.”

Reynolds emphasized that he doesn't want to compromise on the enjoyment of future Deadpool movies and doesn’t want to sacrifice that. He continued, "There is still an arc for Deadpool which is fulfilling and powerful."
