Russian Minister of Sports Visits ‘Religious Complex’

Russian minister of sports Oleg Matytsin visited on Sunday evening the Religious Complex in Old Cairo, accompanied by his Egyptian counterpart Ashraf Sobhi.

The two ministers toured around the old city to enjoy watching the Hanging Church, the Church of Abu Sarjah, and the Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-Aas.

Head of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities Osama Talaat joined them in the tour, as he explained the history of the region, citing the restoration and developments which took place.

During the tour, Matytsin expressed his great admiration for the region and its ancient monuments that conveys a message of religious tolerance across different historical eras in Egypt.

Moreover, he stressed his strong desire and interest in the Egyptian civilization as well as its archeological monuments.

This visit came within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' keenness to benefit from the major events, activities and visits for Egyptian tourism promotion.
