The Russian Cultural Center in Cairo (the Russian House) is hosting a cinematic screening today, Friday, December 20, as part of the Film Association’s regular program, held on the second and third Saturdays of each month, within the framework of joint cultural cooperation between the two sides.

The screening, scheduled for 6:00 PM, features the Italian-French co-production “1900 – Part Two,” written and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, with cinematography by Vittorio Storaro, editing by Franco Arcalli, and music composed by Ennio Morricone. The film stars Robert De Niro, Gérard Depardieu, and Dominique Sanda. The screening is curated and presented by Dr. Galal Saeed, board member of the Film Association.

Set in 1945, the film explores Italy’s liberation from fascism, the conditions of popular resistance, and the struggle to eliminate remnants of the fascist regime. It also portrays the complex friendship between two young men from opposing social classes: Alfredo, born into a wealthy landowning family, and Olmo Dalcò, an illegitimate peasant raised by his grandfather Leo, the workers’ leader and spokesperson for farmers.

Vadim Zaitchikov, Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, welcomed hosting the Film Association’s screenings at the Russian House, emphasizing the importance of cultural collaboration between the two institutions.

Meanwhile, renowned cinematographer and President of the Film Association, artist Mahmoud Abdel Samee, expressed his appreciation to the Russian House in Cairo for hosting the screenings twice a month. He affirmed that the Film Association’s program is committed to openness toward all global cinematic schools, including Russian cinema, in order to introduce audiences to their artistic contributions to the seventh art.
