The High Dam Builders Association, headed by engineer Sabry El Ashmawy, in cooperation with the Russian Cultural Center and the Egyptian Russian Friendship Association, is organizing a special celebration marking the 62nd anniversary of the diversion of the Nile River during the construction of the High Dam.
The event will take place on Monday, May 18, at the seminar hall of the Russian House in Dokki, with the attendance of prominent Egyptian and Russian figures, including Vadim Zaitchikov, Ibrahim Kamel, and Ezzat Saad.
The celebration will also honor engineers and technicians who participated in building the High Dam. The program, moderated by Sherif Gad, includes a lecture by الدكتور Abbas Sharaky on the significance of the High Dam and its ongoing role in sustainable development.
The event will feature a documentary film about the diversion of the Nile River, as well as a photographic exhibition showcasing rare archival images from the construction of the High Dam.
The diversion of the Nile took place on May 14, 1964, in Aswan, marking the completion of the first phase of the High Dam project. The river’s natural course was closed and redirected through an artificial canal and six massive rock tunnels, paving the way for the construction of the main dam body to store water and generate electricity, in one of Egypt’s greatest engineering achievements.
