Russia signed a protocol with the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) to provide the organization with more than 220 million Sputnik V vaccine doses, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced on Thursday.

The agreement will come into force once Sputnik V is approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The state's Health Minister highlighted on Thursday that Russia managed to vaccinate more than 17 million people.

Moreover, the RDIF discussed with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to attach Sputnik V vaccine doses in COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative.

It is worthy to mention that COVAX is considering mainly AstraZeneca vaccine doses to provide poor countries and countries that face political conflicts with the vaccine such as Syria, Yemen, and South Sudan.
