SEE-August5th: Russian Foreign Ministry named on Saturday Steven Seagal, the American action movie star, as a special envoy for Russian- U.S humanitarian ties.

The 66-year-old Steven Seagal is known for his regular visits to Russia, and his role is meant to deepen the cultural, art and youth relations between the two countries.

President Vladimir Putin is a fan of the martial arts Seagal practices in his Hollywood action movies such as, “Under Siege” and “Sniper: Special Ops,” which are popular with Russian audiences.

In 2016,  Putin presented a Russian passport to the Hollywood star ,saying that he hoped that would symbolize how the ties between the two sides were beginning to improve.

According to RT, Seagal said, "I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially."

"I’ve always had a very strong desire to do all I can to help improve Russian-American relations," he added.
