Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek, as well as Oscar nominee Michael Shannon, are set to star in the historical movie “Nuremberg”.
Director James Vanderbilt, known for writing and producing “Zodiac” prior to his directorial debut with “Truth”, wrote the script based on the book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hai.
The rights to the book were acquired by Bluestone Entertainment, Walden Media and Széchenyi Fund — who are also financing the film.
The movie will follow Malek as an American psychiatrist tasked to determine if Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes. He finds himself in a battle of the wits with Hitler’s right-hand man, played by Crowe. Shannon will portray Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, the chief prosecutor in the Nuremberg trials.
Production will commence in February in Hungary. Oscar nominees Dariusz Wolski and Eve Stewart will serve as director of photography and production designer, respectively.
The movie is produced by Richard Saperstein, William Sherak, Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer, Istvan Major, and Paul Neinstein, along with the production company Filmsquad.
Executive Producers are Walden’s Frank Smith, Ben Tappan, and Cher Hawrysh as well as Annie Saperstein, Brooke Saperstein, Beau Turpin, Béla Hajnal, and Nikolett Barabas.
