Ruins of Ptolemy IV Temple have been discovered in Kom Shaqao village, North of Sohag, during the rescue excavations carried out by an archaeological mission from Antiquities ministry. Some of the temple stones were uncovered during excavation works for sewage lines in the village, early September 2019.

The excavations for sewage pipes were immediately stopped in this spot and a team from the Ministry of Antiquities was assigned to conduct rescue excavations, according to Moustafa Waziri, Secretary-general of Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Mohamed Abdel Badie, the head of the Central Administration for Antiquities of Upper Egypt pointed out that the mission began its work in the area south of the discovered wall. The southwestern corner of the temple was discovered in one of the side streets.

The discovered wall consists of repeated scenes for God Hapi carrying offerings, accompanied by various species of animals and birds.

Noteworthy, the Kom Shaqao village is the capital of the tenth region of Upper Egypt, located in Talma Canter. It was known as “Wajit”.
