The Egyptian-German joint archaeological mission working in Heliopolis temple in Matariya district discovered on Sunday remains of royal statues and a stone featuring inscriptions of King Ramesses II in front of god Ra-Horakhty.

The archaeological mission also found a large wall of mud bricks dating back to the New Kingdom in Egypt and a collection of pottery.

Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector and co-head of the Egyptian-German joint mission Ayman Ashmawy said that the mission found a part of a paved street one meter below the groundwater.

Two holes, dating back to the Hellenistic era, were discovered. The first one contained remains of inscriptions of King Ramesses II.

The second one had several parts of the royal statues, one of which is part of the base of the statue of King Seti II (1205-1194 BC).
