The Romanian film Kontinental 25, directed by award-winning filmmaker Radu Jude, has been screened at the 46th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF).
The film has already drawn international attention after winning the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The story follows Orsolya, played by Eszter Tompa, a judicial officer in Cluj whose life unravels after a homeless man takes his own life shortly after she carries out his eviction.
The film follows her as she tries to navigate guilt, responsibility and the social tensions of modern Romania. The cast also includes Gabriel Spahiu, Oana Mardare and Șerban Pavlu.
Shot in just ten days using an iPhone 15, Kontinental 25 blends drama, satire and social commentary, touching on themes of inequality, bureaucracy and moral conflict.
Its minimalist production and strong performances have helped position it as one of the most notable European titles on the festival circuit this year.
CIFF continues to serve as a platform for filmmakers to present their work to critics, industry figures, and cinema enthusiasts from across the world.
