Two-time Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. is teaming with director Shane Black on a new movie adaptation of Donald E. Westlake's "Parker" novels.
He is also set to produce the movie with his wife Susan Downey for Team Downey as well as Black's old "Lethal Weapon" and "The Nice Guys" patron, Joel Silver.
The movie marks Downey Jr. and Black's third collaboration after the 2005 movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and Marvel's 2013 threequel "Iron Man 3".
It is based on the character Parker, a ruthless criminal who possesses no redeeming qualities and does not abide by any ethical principle besides being loyal to his partners in crime.
The character has headed twenty-four of the twenty-eight novels penned by Westlake under the pseudonym Richard Stark.
A number of those books have already been adapted into movies. "The Hunted" was adapted twice, into "Payback" and "Point Blank".
There is no detail about which book Downey Jr. and Black are adapting.
The "Iron Man" star will be the latest actor to play the meticulous criminal on screen, following in the footsteps of Lee Marvin, Robert Duvall, and Mel Gibson.
The character was most recently portrayed by Jason Statham in the 2013 movie "Parker".
