A drone attacked a refinery in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, on Thursday morning, but no petroleum supplies were disrupted, according to Saudi state news agency SPA.

According to SPA, which cited a statement from an energy ministry official, the attack created a small fire that was quickly extinguished with no injuries or fatalities.

"The refinery's operations and supplies of petroleum and its derivatives were not affected," the statement said.

"These repeated acts of sabotage and terrorism on vital installations and civilian structures ... do not just target the Kingdom but aim to undermine the security and stability of global energy supplies," the statement said.

It reaffirmed the Kingdom's appeal for the international community and its organisations to condemn such terrorist attacks and confront all those who perpetrate or support them.

Last month, the Arab coalition has intercepted a booby-trapped drone, launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia towards Jazan city, Saudi Arabia, without causing injuries or damage.

In a statement, the coalition noted that the drone was launched from Sana’a International Airport to target civilians.

In 2014, the Yemeni civil war began when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, 120 kilometers west of Marib, prompting Saudi-led forces to intervene to prop up the government the following year.

Tens of thousands of people have died, and millions have been displaced in what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
