Organized under an official invitation from the Egyptian Embassy and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Khaled Abou Shanab, Cultural Attaché, the exhibition will remain open to visitors through August 3, 2026.
The event was inaugurated by H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, alongside Her Imperial Highness Empress Margarete Habsburg. The ceremony also saw the notable attendance of H.E. Ambassador Stefan Schultz, Austrian Ambassador to the United Nations specializing in Sub-Saharan Africa and the African Union—reflecting the deep cultural and civilizational bridges connecting Egypt and Austria.
The exhibition features 47 oil paintings skillfully executed on canvas using the
plein air (direct painting from life) technique. The artist traveled with her brush into the heart of rural Egyptian environments and heritage sites to capture the faces of artisans in their natural settings and daily lives, authentically portraying the values of empathy and compassion embedded in the genuine Egyptian character.
The showcase presents a unique philosophical and artistic vision. Its title transcends the classic literary allegory of George Orwell's Animal Farm, reflecting instead a deeply rooted human concept within the Egyptian consciousness—where humans, animals, the land, and crafts coexist as a single ecological and thematic unit characterized by compassion and kindness.
Speaking after the opening, artist Nashwa Omran stated:
"Crafts preserve memory... and painting preserves the craft. In an era of rapid lifestyle and vocational change, I wanted to immortalize the faces of those creators—the potters, weavers, and bakers—who face the world with quiet dignity. My goal was to highlight the quiet warmth in authentic Egyptian features that draw inspiration from reality to craft life itself."
The exhibition garnered significant high-level diplomatic and cultural interest across Austria and Europe. Attendees praised the expressive and documentary depth of the artworks, which capture traditional crafts facing extinction, while commending the role of the Egyptian Embassy and Cultural Bureau in Vienna in presenting this humane Egyptian artistic vision to the world in its finest form.
