Renowned Egypt's Actress Nadia El-Gendi Turns 77

Egypt's actress Nadia El-Gendi is celebrating her 77th birthday Today Friday, March 24.

On her special day, both fans and celebrities took to their social media accounts and penned down a sweet message for the beautiful actress.

El-Gendi, who is regarded as one of the finest actresses the Egyptian film industry could ever have, began her artistic career in the "Djamila Bouhired" movie in which she worked alongside Rushdi Abaza and Magda.

She has appeared in more than 50 film and TV productions, displaying her versatility through a wide range of characters. Even though she has also acted in romantic movies, El-Gendi is arguably most renowned for portraying cold women who behave in unexpected ways.

Elgendi came to prominence in 'The Dwama' series (1974) and many remarkable films and stunning performances followed suit. Her performance in (A Mission in Tel Aviv) won her much praise from her fans and critics alike.

El-Gendi is well known in Egypt as “Negmet El-Gamaheer” (the star of the masses) because of the high commercial success of her movies in the 1990s.

Born and raised in Alexandria, El-Gendi started her breakthrough in cinema after winning a beauty contest in Cairo in 1958.

The renowned magazine “al-Geel” labeled her as the best new face when she was yet to turn 15.

Moreover, she was the country’s highest-paid actress in the 1980s.

The talented actress married twice, first to the late iconic actor Emad Hamdi, with whom she had one Boy, Hisham, and second to filmmaker Mohamed Moktar.

Throughout her long-standing career, she received various accolades, including 5 awards for best actress for her role in the cinema title “al-Raghba” (“The Desire”), the International al-Rubatt Film Festival in Morocco, the Damascus International Film Festival in Syria, and the 2009 and International Cairo Film Festival in Egypt.

The stunning actress, who was born in 1945, began her successful acting career in the 1950s and her portfolio includes over 200 films, including ‘Al-Gammila’ (The Beauty) starring the legendary actor Roushdy Abaza.
