July 29 marks the 132nd death anniversary of the most acclaimed Dutch Post-Impressionist painter in Western art history and in his generation Van Gogh.

On his death anniversary, Sada El-Balad English (SEE) takes a look at some facts about him and his greatest and most valuable paintings of all time.

One of the greatest Renaissance painters, he lived in the golden age of creativity in Europe among many influential artists of the 20th century.

Gogh has been called the father of modern oil paintings' school, and he is widely revered as one of the greatest artists of all time and the most persely talented person to have ever walked the earth.

He is well known for his seminal works like Starry Night, but his brooding self-portraits receive a lot of recognition, too.

Among the over 2,100 artworks was a simple portrait of a peasant woman. Painted in 1885 just before the artist's move from his native land to the artistic circles of Paris, it features a rather dour young woman in a voluminous white cap.

In fact, Gogh's paintings did not sell during his lifetime, during which he was generally considered a madman and a failure, although some collectors recognized the value of his work. His fame came only after his death, when he evolved in the public imagination into a misunderstood genius.

To celebrate his talent, many people from different nationalities visited the immersive VAN GOGH LIVE 8K art exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 28, 2022.

Ultimately, many current artists across the world now are fascinated with the artist who eventually came to cut off his own ear.
