Remembering Mostafa Saadeq Al-Rafie on His Death Anniv.

The 78th death anniversary of renowned poet, philosopher, writer, and composer Mostafa Saadeq Al-Rafie is being observed on Wednesday.

Al-Rafie‘s unique writing style fascinates the readers and he will always be remembered for his greatest services to the Arab language. 

He was born in Qalyubiyya, Egypt, in 1880 and his maternal grandfather was Sheikh Eltoukhy (originally from Toukh, a famous Egyptian city).

He began writing poetry at a young age but published his first collection, "Al-Rafie" when he was just 19.

His famous poetry collections include "Hadeeth Al Qamar" by Mostafa Saadeq Al Rafeie was first published in 1912.

Among his notable works is "Wahy al-Qalam" book, which is composed of a collection of critical and constructive articles inspired by contemporary social life and Islamic stories and history.

He also composed the words of the Egyptian national anthem Eslami ya Misr and the words of the Tunisian national anthem as well.

Despite his hearing disability and the fact that he was self-taught, he became one of the Arab greatest intellects and a distinguished literary personality of the 20th century, whose creative imagination left an indelible mark on the Arab speakers in North Africa and the Sham region.

He was a nationalist who, in his poems, supported nationalism in the Arab world. He devoted 40 years of his life to his country and literary pursuits that will remain in the annals of Egypt's history and the wider Caribbean. His literary works are now being studied at Arab Universities and the wider world.

He ranked among literary exponents like Ahmed Shawki, Ibrahim Hafiz, Yehia Haqi, and Nagy Ibrahim.

passed away at the age of 57 on August 30 in 1937 after suffering in his house from a short illness.
