Today (June 12) marks the birth anniversary of the well-known Egyptian comedian and actor Mohamed Awad.
Born in Abbaseya district in Cairo on July 12, 1932, he obtained a degree in literature from Ain Shams University in 1957 and later received a diploma in theatrical arts from the High Institute of Theatrical Arts in 1962.
Awad's talents were evident from childhood and continued to develop during his university years. He began his career by joining the television’s theatrical team, where he gained fame with the play "Lady Golfedan". Following this successful play, he ventured into cinema.
While gaining stage experience in the early sixties, Awad became a standard feature of the Egyptian theatre renaissance of the mid-sixties. He was involved with the television theatre companies and the beginning of the United Artists Company.
The late actor is well known for his influential television series such as "Al Parari wal Hamool", "Bent El Hetta", "Ahlan YaGedoo Aziz", and "Borg El Haz". Some of his notable plays included "Al Abeet", "Massa El Kheir ya Masr", "Motreb El Awatef", "Asl we soora", "Mogrem Raghm Anfo", and "Al Tartoor".
He married his classmate Quot Elqlop Abdelwahab in the 1960s, and they had two children: Adel Awad, a famous director, and Alaa Awad, a comedian and actor. Sadly, Awad passed away from cancer at the age of 65 in 1997.
