Remembering Hussain Riad on His 58th Death Anniv.

Today, July 17, marks the 58th death anniversary of acclaimed actor Hussain Riad, who died of a heart attack in 1965.

Born in 1897, in Cairo, Riad's contributions to Egypt's cinema are a treasure trove for posterity. He was honoured with the Egyptian State Award and Medal of Science and Arts in 1963.

In a career spanned about 46 years, he appeared in more than 320 films, 240 theater plays, and 150 radio and 50 TV plays.

In 1923, Riad joined Youssef Wahbi's Theatrical Troupe after he graduated from the Arab Acting Institute.

He made his breakthrough in 1946 Attorney general film, starring Zaki Rustom, and Madiha Yousry.

Riad was known as the "father of affection" in many of his roles and participated in many famous works in Egyptian cinema, such as The Good Land, Back Again, Jamila, the Algerian, Among the Ruins, Love and Adoration, Forbidden Women, Dearer than My Life and Saladin.

In 2019, his daughter, Fatima, published a book about his life, acting career and death, and dedicated it to all his fans.
