Today ( June 23) is the anniversary of the death of Atef El Tayeb, an Egyptian film director known for portraying the struggles of ordinary people in his films.
He was born in Maragha, Sohag Governorate, in 1947 and graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema with a degree in Directing in 1970.
He started his career as an assistant to several directors, including Medhat Bakir, Shadi Abdel Salam, and Youssef Chahine.
El Tayeb made his directorial debut with "Deadly Jealousy" in 1982, and continued to direct successful films such as "The Innocent," "The Bus Driver," "Against the Government," "The Escape," and "Hot Night."
Tragically, he passed away in 1996 from a heart attack following heart surgery.
