Veteran Egyptian scriptwriter Atef Beshay, who wrote sitcoms including Ya Regal Al-Alem Etahido and Al-Nisaa Qadimoon, passed away on Friday after a long struggle with illness.
Beshay's funeral will be held at 02:00 PM at St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church in Heliopolis, and the memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM the same day in the hall attached to the church.
Prior to his death, the late scribe has been experiencing health issues after suffering a brain hemorrhage, entering intensive care, and undergoing surgery.
He entered the intensive care unit again after his health deteriorated and tests confirmed that he had pneumonia.
Beshay made his last appearance at the closing ceremony of the 50th edition of the Film Society Festival for Egyptian Cinema last July, during which he was honored in recognition of his contribution to the art of film.
During his artistic career, he presented 55 works in cinema and television that have been branded as the most famous works in Egyptian art history.
Beshay also worked as a professor of screenwriting at the Higher Institute of Cinema and the Maritime Academy University as well as a writer for the newspapers "Al-Masry Al-Youm" and "Rose Al-Youssef", in addition to being an art critic.
Among his notable masterpieces are the film "Fawzia El Borgwazya," as well as TV productions "Ya Regal Al-Alem Etahido", and "Al-Nisaa Qadimoon".
He scribed his last work was the 2009 TV series "Tager Al-Saada," starring late legend Khaled Saleh.
