A series based on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” is in development at Netflix, with “Everything I Know About Love” author Dolly Alderton penning the script.

There is no cast attached yet and the project has not been greenlit at the streamer. Netflix has a history with Austen, having adapted “Persuasion” for a 2022 movie starring Dakota Johnson.

Austen’s most famous novel, “Pride and Prejudice” follows the intelligent yet stubborn Elizabeth Bennet as she learns that love is more powerful than pride or prejudice through her relationship with Mr. Darcy, a man she initially dislikes but eventually falls for.

The book, originally published in 1813, has been adapted several times for the screen, perhaps most famously in the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and the BBC’s 1995 miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Alderton is best known for her bestselling 2018 memoir “Everything I Know About Love,” which looks back on her experience navigating her 20s and has become somewhat of a bible for Millennial and Gen Z women.

It was adapted into a seven-episode series by Alderton for BBC One and Peacock in 2022. Alderton’s most recent book, “Good Material” — a fictional novel following a struggling male comedian in the fallout of a breakup — was released last year to positive reviews.

It’s been a big week for Austen on screen — the BBC announced Wednesday a “Pride and Prejudice” spinoff series about Elizabeth Bennet’s sister, Mary. Titled “The Other Bennet Sister,” the series is being made by “Doctor Who” producer Bad Wolf.
