"Pressure," the upcoming historical drama about the most consequential weather forecast in history, will arrive in theaters just days before the 78th anniversary of D-Day, on May 29.
The Working Title and Studiocanal movie shares the date with the Melissa Leo horror film "Passenger," and with the RuPaul-starring drag-themed action comedy "Stop! That! Train!".
Several other films are releasing around that time: "The Mandalorian and Grogu", the first big-screen Star Wars movie in seven years, slated to arrive on May 22, and Amazon MGM Studios' live-action "Masters of the Universe" will invade the theaters on June 5.
May 22 also brings Boots Riley's long-awaited new satirical comedy, "I Love Boosters," while June 5 is also home to the animation-live-action hybrid "Animal Friends" and the Paul Rudd musical comedy "Power Ballad".
Based on actual events, which were then adapted into a stage play by David Haig, "Pressure" centers around the nerve-racking days leading up to the Allied invasion of Normandy.
It sees Andrew Scott play Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg, whose job it was to inform Eisenhower of weather conditions that would make or break their Normandy invasion. The complex decision-making was critical in the fate of the war and the course of history.
Brendan Fraser stars as General Dwight Eisenhower, the Allied commander who had the ultimate say on the invasion's date.
Army General Eisenhower, nicknamed Ike, was lauded for his leadership during the war and would go on to become the 34th U.S. President, serving from 1953-61.
The film also features Kerry Condon as Kay Summersby, Eisenhower's assistant; Chris Messina as Irving P. Krick, a rival American meteorologist; Damian Lewis as Bernard Montgomery, the commander of the British forces; and Con O'Neill as Allied air commander Trafford Leigh-Mallory.
The official synopsis reads: “In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”
Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai) directed from a script he co-wrote with Haig, adapting the latter's critically lauded 2014 play.
"Pressure" will be released in theaters on May 29, 2026.
