President El-Sisi Congratulates Dr. Khaled El-Anany on His Historic Election as UNESCO Director-General

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Dr. Khaled El-Anany, the newly elected Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad.

The official Spokesman for the Presidency stated that the President began the meeting by renewing his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. El-Anany on his sweeping victory in the UNESCO Executive Board elections, having secured the support of 55 out of 57 member states. The President emphasized that this remarkable achievement represents a historic milestone reflecting Egypt’s distinguished standing and the deep international appreciation for its ancient civilization, rich culture, and intellectual contributions, as well as its influential presence in regional and global forums. President El-Sisi also expressed his sincere gratitude to the nations that supported Egypt’s candidate.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the Presidential Spokesman, added that Dr. El-Anany expressed his profound appreciation to the President for his unwavering support, as well as to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egyptian diplomats, the Permanent Delegation of Egypt to UNESCO, and all members of his campaign team. He also extended his thanks to the national institutions that contributed to this historic success.

Dr. El-Anany affirmed that the international trust placed in him carries a great responsibility to continue working tirelessly to promote international cooperation in protecting human heritage, spreading knowledge, and fostering the values of peace, coexistence, and tolerance among civilizations.

The Spokesman further noted that Dr. El-Anany outlined his vision for the coming phase, which focuses on advancing UNESCO’s objectives and strengthening its role across its areas of competence.

In this context, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuing close cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO in the educational, cultural, and heritage preservation fields, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to supporting the organization’s initiatives and joint efforts to build bridges of understanding among cultures and peoples.
