AMC Networks is developing a TV adaptation of the 1991 surf action flick “Point Break”.

The series is set in 2026, 35 years after the events of the original movie that starred Patrick Swayze as a beachy bank robber and Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent.

AMC won the project in a competitive situation. If it’s greenlit, the series will follow a dangerous heist crew with ties to the Ex-Presidents gang featured in the film.

The adaptation hails from Dave Kalstein (“Butterfly”), Alcon Television Group and AMC Studios.

Kalstein will write and serve as executive producer alongside Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson and president of television Ben Roberts.

Kalstein’s credits include Amazon’s Daniel Dae Kim thriller “Butterfly” as well as CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” ABC’s “Quantico,” and USA Network’s “Treadstone,” on which he served as co-showrunner.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by W. Peter Iliff, “Point Break” followed a group of Southern California surfers who also pulled off bank robberies.

They were known as the Ex-Presidents, donning masks of Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Lyndon B. Johnson during their heists.

Rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah infiltrates the gang and gets caught up in their dangerous lifestyle, culminating in a riveting chase sequence. Lori Petty and Gary Busey also star.

This would not be the first “Point Break” adaptation. In 2015, Ericson Core helmed a remake starring Édgar Ramírez, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Delroy Lindo, and Ray Winstone.
