Egypt Prime Minister (PM) Moustafa Madbouli inaugurated on Sunday the first phase of Roxy smart parking.

Madbouli praised the efforts exerted to accomplish this vital project, describing it as “a qualitative leap” in the world of smart garages.

“This project can be added to national projects which have been implemented over the last period," he said. "It will contribute to solving the traffic problem in this area effectively."

On his part, Cairo Governor Maj. General Khaled Abdel Aal pointed out that this project represents a remarkable achievement during the reign of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, adding that it is the first multi-storey underground electronic garage in the Middle East.

“This garage will achieve a significant positive change in the traffic flow in Heliopolis and the neighbouring areas, which are witnessing traffic congestion due to population and commercial activities,” the governor added. “This project, along with other subway ones will contribute at achieving the integrated transport system.”

“The state is racing against time to establish new cities like New Administrative Capital (NAC), El Alamein, the Jalala plateau and many other projects which embody Egypt’s new vision to ease the burden for Cairo’s residents,” Abdel Aal said.

Moreover, the governor thanked all those who contributed to the accomplishment of this project, noting that the smart parking's opening coincides with Cairo’s governorate celebration of its national day.

The electronic garage’s opening was attended by military production, local development ministers, in addition to Chairman of Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), and a number of MPs.

Roxy Smart Parking

It is considered Egypt’s first high-tech, fully automated underground parking garage as well as the first smart parking system in the Middle East and North Africa.

The project aims at resolving Cairo’s chaotic and congested traffic as well as the widely spread phenomenon of a car keeper, known as the “Sayes”.

The parking, which is located in Roxy, Heliopolis, spans over 40 thousand square feet and its first phase costed EGP 230 million.

The first phase can take up to 900 cars over four floors and the parking, as a whole, will take up a total of 1,700 cars.

The second phase of the garage is expected to be completed in December 2020.

How Does The Garage Work?

The entire process functions automatically; it takes up from 3 to 6  minutes.

The customers will be required to take a smart card before putting their car into an elevator. The elevator will then transport the car into the parking.

When it's time to leave, the customers will use their card to pay the fees before inserting it into the designated slot so that the car will arrive in the elevator.
