Pentagon Chief Estimates U.S. War in Iran Costs at $37.5 Bln, Requests $87.6 Bln Supplemental Funding

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated on Tuesday that the cost of the U.S. war in Iran has reached approximately $37.5 billion since fighting broke out in late February.

Moreover, he noted that this figure includes current expenditures and projected funding needs through the end of the current fiscal year, pointing out that these estimates had not been previously disclosed by the Pentagon.

Newsweek quoted Hegseth as saying during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing that the U.S. administration is asking Congress to approve $87.6 billion in supplemental funding. This request aims to cover what was described as "urgent needs" linked to the war and to support the policy of "promoting peace through strength."

The Defense Secretary’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region following the deaths of three U.S. service members and U.S. President Donald Trump's orders to execute new strikes against Iran—developments that have heightened scrutiny over the course of the war and the U.S. administration's strategy toward it.
