Paul Rudd and Jack Black announced their new reimagining of “Anaconda” will hit the theaters on December 25, 2025.
“We’re making a movie!” Black revealed in a promo clip uploaded Friday, confirming earlier reports that he and Rudd would team up to star in the serpentine story.
Tom Gormican, who directed “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” helms the Columbia Pictures film, from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten.
Plot details, including Black and Rudd’s roles, are still kept under wraps, but Black confirms one key point: “It’s gonna be a big f***ing snake and it’s gonna rip!”.
According to Rudd, the movie will have something for everybody. “You wanna get scared? You wanna laugh? You wanna celebrate with your friends?” he notee. “Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have nobody, but just wanna forget about that? It’s coming out on Christmas in 2025.”
During the remainder of the 53-second clip, the pair rattle off more jokes about the film “coming” to theaters, then Black offers to introduce Rudd to their reptilian co-star.
“Dude, have you seen this snake? It’s in that room, right there,” he says, directing a giddy Rudd to follow him out of the frame. “They’re about to feed it a donkey — come on!”.
Despite sharing a title, “Anaconda” is not a remake of the 1997 thriller, which saw Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube among a National Geographic film crew taken hostage by an unhinged, multi-accented hunter (Jon Voight) on his quest to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake. That film was a box office hit, earning $136 million at the global box office and spawning four sequels.
Gormican’s film reportedly takes a meta-turn — like he successfully orchestrated with the Nicolas Cage-starring “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” — and is focused on a group of friends who are facing mid-life crises and set off to remake their favorite movie from their youth. But when they head into the jungle, things get real quickly.
Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing “Anaconda” via their Fully Formed banner, which inked a first-look deal with Sony division Screen Gems earlier this year.
Black and Rudd are also closely aligned with Sony thanks to the hit “Jumanji” and “Ghostbusters” franchises, respectively.
