Patrick Wilson is joining Javier Bardem and Amy Adams in the “Cape Fear” TV adaptation currently in the works at Apple TV+.
From creator and showrunner Nick Antosca and executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, “Cape Fear” follows a happily married couple whose lives are turned upside down when a notorious killer from their past gets out of prison.
Adams will play the wife, Anna, while Bardem will play the killer. Wilson’s role has yet to be officially disclosed.
Apple describes the 10-episode series as a “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” and an “examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”
The series is based on both the John D. MacDonald novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s 1962 Universal Pictures feature “Cape Fear,” as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte.
The official logline for the series states, “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”
The new series hails from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Spielberg’s Amblin Television.
Adass and Bardem are also executive producers on the project, alongside Antosca, Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television.
Wilson is an Emmy-nominated actor best known for his roles in HBO’s “Angels in America,” the 2004 “Phantom of the Opera” film, “Watchmen,” “The A-Team” and the “Insidious” horror franchise.
On Broadway, he received two Tony nominations for his roles in “Oklahoma!” and “The Full Monty.”
Wilson is also in both “Aquaman” movies and will next be seen in “The Conjuring: Last Rites” and Noah Baumbach’s next film, “Jay Kelly.”
