It's been a long, bumpy road to Netflix's long-awaited "Ma Waraa Al Tabiaa" (The Paranormal) season 2.
Amr Salama, written and director of the show, has revealed the real reason why Season 2 was delayed.
"What stopped the project was never my lack of interest," he noted. "I would sell my kidney and film 'The Paranormal', but there are administrative and legal details that are beyond my control. I hope that the reasons for the delay end and things will resolve themselves so that it can come to light."
Season one of "The Paranormal" consists of 6 episodes and debuted on Netflix in November 2020. It was the streamer's first Egyptian series and its third Middle East original series following "Jinn" and "Al Rawabi School for Girls".
The cast stars Ahmed Amin Najm, Razane Jammal, Aya Samaha, Reem Abdelkader, Rushdi Al Shami, and Samaa Ibrahem.
The official synopsis reads: "Refaat Ismail, a cynical hematology professor with a dark sense of humor, has his world turned upside down and his lifelong scientific convictions questioned after he begins to experience paranormal activities. Along with his university colleague Maggie, they enter the paranormal world and try to save their loved ones from the immense danger that surrounds them."
The series was based on the horror/thriller novels "Ma Waraa Al Tabiaa" (The Paranormal) by Ahmed Khaled Tawfik, late renowned Egyptian novelist, known for his contributions to Arab horror, which has sold more than 15 million copies.
