Paramount+'s "Teen Wolf" Spinoff "Wolf Pack" Canceled after One Season

Paramount+ has canceled "Wolf Pack", an offshoot of former MTV favorite Teen Wolf and from creator Jeff Davis, after a single season. The series wrapped its eight-episode run last March.

Sources disclosed the streamer was keen on doing a second season of the series, but ultimately delays by the writers and actors strikes last year would have meant that a sophomore run would not have been ready until 2025.

The insiders, however, stated that wasn’t going to work for Paramount+ as the platform would have had to spend more to market the show after being off the air for an extended period.

When asked about a renewal for the spinoff in March, star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who also served as an exec produced the show, revealed that writing for a potential second season was underway. 

“We plan to do one,” she said. “We’d like to. We haven’t gotten the official word. I think it’s a tough time right now with the strike coming up. It’s hard, but our numbers have been great and people are still really finding the show and getting excited about it, so I’m hopeful for a season two.”

Paramount+ had high hopes for the series, which launched out of the" Teen Wolf: The Movie" on the streamer. "Wolf Pack" was based on the series of novels by Edo van Belkom and centered on two teenagers (Armani Jackson and Bella Shepard) whose lives are changed when a wildfire puts a terrifying supernatural creature on the prowl. 

The author shared news of the cancellation Thursday and expressed frustration at the yearlong delay in making the official decision.

"Wolf Pack" marked Gellar’s first live-action TV role since she played herself during a 2019 episode of CBS’ "The Big Bang Theory".  The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actress' last starred in a series regular role on the CBS comedy "The Crazy Ones", which ran for one season during the 2013-14 season.

The series was produced in-house by MTV Entertainment Studios.

Meanwhile, Paramount+ has yet to make decisions on the futures of the scripted series "Frasier", "Lawmen: Bass Reeves", "Special Ops: Lioness", and the "Beavis and Butt-head" animated revival.
