“Paddington in Peru,” the third adventure about the lovable bear with a fondness for marmalade, will hit theaters during Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in 2025.

The movie is set to release on Jan. 17, 2025, in the United States, about two months after it lands in the United Kingdom on November 8, 2024.

Dougal Wilson directed the movie, which, as the title suggests, brings Paddington’s story to Peru as he returns to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears.

With the Brown Family in tow, a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and to the mountain peaks of Peru.

Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton are returning as Paddington and Aunt Lucy, with Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas and Olivia Colman rounding out the live-action cast.

Rachel Zegler was supposed to join the film but was unable to carry out the role due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

“It’s been a joy and an honour to shoot ‘Paddington in Peru’ with such a wonderful and talented cast and crew,” Wilson said.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been blessed with such a lovely group of people, many of whom have returned to the world of this beloved bear. We are also delighted to have welcomed Emily, Olivia, Antonio and Carla to the Paddington family.”

“Paddington in Peru” began principal photography in July, with filming taking place in London, Peru and Colombia.

StudioCanal fully financed and developed the movie and will distribute it across the U.K., France, Germany, Benelux, Poland, Australia and New Zealand, as well as through partners in China and Japan.

Sony Pictures will distribute in the U.S., Canada and other international territories including Latin America.

Mark Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont wrote the screenplay from a story by Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark.

The first entries  of the trilogy, all based on the children’s series by British author Michael Bond, have generated more than $500 million at the global box office.

David Heyman and Rosie Alison produced the film. Executive producers were Paul King, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Dan MacRae, Tim Wellspring, Jeffrey Clifford, and Naoya Kinoshita.
