The first look at Egyptian stars Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki’s long-gestating film “Al Gawahergy” has finally been unveiled.
The film's journey to the big screen had been a long bumpy ride that dates back to 2022.
It was initially set to hit the cinemas during the Eid al-Fitr movie marathon in 2022 but got postponed indefinitely.
The film landed an August 2024 release window, only to be delayed to the Eid al-Adha movie marathon in 2025 and then to July 30, only to be delayed once again.
It landed a new release date for the 2026 Eid al-Adha movie marathon a month from now, only to be pushed back. The film is now set to release in theaters on August 5.
Along with Henedy and Zaki, “Al Gawahergy" also stars Lebleba, Ahmed El Saadany, Tara Emad, Bassem Samra, and more. It also features a posthumous appearance from Ahmad Halawah.
Written by Islam Khairy and directed by Omar Taher, “Al Gawahergy” depicts the crises of marriage in a comedic setting.
Per the film’s logline, "A jeweler gets into many troubles and embarrassing situations because of his wife, resulting into many comedic situations."
“Al Gawahergy” witnesses the first collaboration between Henedy and Zaki after 23 years. They last starred together in the 1998 film “Saidi at the American University”.
Taher has previously revealed that the upcoming project explicitly addresses a series of situational dynamics rooted in human relationships and contemporary daily life, utilizing a lighthearted and accessible stylistic approach.
