The Royal Film Commission in Jordan decided to withdraw the movie "Princess" from the Oscars 2022 race, following the anger and condemnation that the film sparked.
This comes hours after the Egyptian director of the movie "Princess", Mohamed Diab announced on his Facebook page that "any screenings of the film will be stopped."
The authority said yesterday, in a statement, that "Amira's film is fictional, not a documentary, and the choice of the method of telling the story and narrating the events is up to the staff of directing, writing and production."
It referred to the role of the Royal Film Commission in announcing the opening of submissions for feature films to be nominated for Oscars, receiving films and organizing the process, in addition to forming an independent committee of experts in the audio-visual sector.
"The committee chose the movie "Amira" from among a number of other advanced films."
The movie "Princess" sparked great controversy a day after it was shown at the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The film, which deals with the issue of sperm smuggling of Palestinians in Israeli prisons, was severely attacked with "abusing prisoners and children born from those sperm", who are called "Ambassadors of Freedom", and that it supports the "Israeli narrative" about sperm smuggling, which the Palestinians consider a form of struggle: to have their wives pregnant while in prison.
