Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike franchise) and Lera Abova (Bumper in Berlin, Honey Don’t) have joined the cast of the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga “One Piece” Season 2 at Netflix.
Manganiello will play “Mr. 0” and Abova will portray “Miss All Sunday.” The announcement was made during the Netflix Geeked Week Live show Thursday. It also gave a behind-the-scenes look at the first table read of Season 2, which teased that popular character Chopper will appear in the new season.
Manganiello, who hosted Geeked Week, and Abova were on hand at the event, along with returning star Jeff Ward (Buggy) who welcomed them “on behalf of the Season 1 villains.”
“To be trusted with one of the greatest characters ever in manga and fantasy; I’ve been waiting for a character like this my entire career,” Manganiello commented.
Manganiello and Abova join previously announced new cast members Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy, Callum Kerr as Smoker, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Clive Russell as Crocus, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, Ty Keogh as Dalton, Werner Coetser as Dorry and returning cast members Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger.
“One Piece” follows the otherworldly adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, and his pirate crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search of the ultimate treasure “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
The cast also stars Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger.
Season 2 is currently in production in Cape Town, South Africa. Matt Owens and Joe Tracz serve as writers, co-showrunners, and executive producers on Season 2.
“One Piece’s” original creator Eiichiro Oda and former co-showrunner Steven Maeda also executive produce along with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Tetsu Fujimura, and Chris Symes.
The series is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner) and Netflix.
