Today, Monday, 28/10/2019 marks the 46th death anniversary of” Dean of Arabic Literature”, Taha Hussein.
On this occasion, SEE news website sheds light his numerous career highlights
*Dean of Arabic literature was born in a village belonging to Maghagha district of Minya governorate in central Upper Egypt, on November 15, 1889.
* Hussein became blind at the age of three years, because of the spread of ignorance in that period; his eyes were infected with ophthalmia, and instead of visiting the doctor, he was prescribed a wrong medicine that made him lose his sight forever.
* His blindness did not stop him from receiving education, as his father sent him to 'kuttab' to learn Arabic language, the basics of mathematics, and to memorize the entire Quran at a young age.
*He was admitted at Cairo University in 1908, He obtained his PhD in 1914 in a study about poet «Abu Ala Al-Maari», then he traveled to France, where he married Suzanne Bresseau in 1895; he was the first Egyptian to receive a PhD from Sorbonne University in 1918.
*He was a professor of literature, until he became the dean of the Faculty of Arts, and in 1950; he served as Minister of Knowledge (Ministry of Education nowadays) in the Egyptian government.
* He produced a unique type of Arabic literature, basing on deep analysis and analytical interpretation.
*He created an intellectual and cultural heritage in various types of literature
*He was nominated for a Nobel Prize in literature fourteen times.
* He died in October 28, 1973, at the age of 84 as he suffered a health problem. A doctor checked him and said his health has improved. On Sunday، 28 October Dr. Hussein asked one of the family members to bring cup of milk for him; he drank a very small amount of the milk and then he died.
