The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the “Digital Vortex – Screen Independence Summit” in Istanbul, emphasizing the importance of protecting children’s rights and strengthening family cohesion in an increasingly digital world.
The OIC was represented by Dr. Amina Al-Hajri, Director-General of Cultural, Social and Family Affairs, on behalf of OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha. The summit, organized by Türkiye’s Ministry of Family and Social Services, brought together senior international officials, policymakers, and experts to discuss the social impact of digital technologies.
During the discussions, the OIC delegation addressed the role of digital platforms in shaping children’s identities, values, and behavior, highlighting the need for responsible digital engagement and policies that safeguard children while promoting healthy family relationships.
The Organization also presented its ongoing efforts to advance the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Islam and initiatives aimed at enhancing child protection in digital environments.
The General Secretariat commended Türkiye’s leadership in promoting family-centered policies, particularly during its chairmanship of the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. It also reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to working closely with member states to ensure that technological advancement contributes to social development, protects children’s well-being, and upholds human dignity.
