On Thursday, Norwegian novelist and playwright Jon Fosse won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable.”
Fosse’s work was among the most read and spread work throughout Europe and his works gained a wider fanbase after attracting the English-speaking audience.
Critics and literature lovers always considered Fosse's works among the award-winning literary figures and Nobel winners like Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett.
The Chairman of the Nobel Anders Olsson said that Fosse’s work is rooted “in the language and nature of his Norwegian background.”
On his side, Fosse said: “I am overwhelmed and grateful. I see this as an award to the literature that first and foremost aims to be literature, without other considerations."
