Nina Dobrev, Tyler Hoechlin, and Virginia Gardner have signed on to star in the rom-com "It Happened One Summer."
The film is currently in pre-production and is based on Tessa Bailey’s buzzy novel of the same name.
Peter Hutchings (The Hating Game) will direct from a screenplay by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski.
The producers are Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures (To Leslie). Bailey, Lisa Berger, and Samantha Martin from Frolic Media are executive producing. Embankment is handling worldwide sales.
The synopsis reads: "Piper Bellinger is a glamorous LA It Girl whose glittering world comes crashing down after a viral mishap gets her cancelled overnight. Cut off from her wealthy family’s safety net, she’s exiled to a rugged fishing town with one ultimatum: fix up her late father’s dive bar – or lose everything. There, she butts heads with Brendan, a gruff sea captain who has zero patience for influencers. He’s the last person she expected – and exactly what she needs."
“This book has sold all over the world and became a BookTok staple with 235 million hashtag views, remaining a bestseller thanks to its sharp wit and emotional depth,” producer Farra said in a statement.
Bailey added: “Hello Dream cast. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this talented team behind the project and look forward to the magic they’ll make.”
Dobrev most recently wrapped production on the action thriller "Bear Country," opposite Russell Crowe. Hoechlin most recently starred as Clark Kent/Superman in Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing’s "Superman & Lois," which ran for four seasons. Gardner most recently wrapped the lead role in the romantic comedy feature "F*ck Valentine’s Day" opposite Marisa Tomei.
