The movie is based on the character of Renfield, who was first introduced in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula“.

English actor Nicholas Hoult stars as the titular character, the loyal follower of Dracula (played by Nicolas Cage) and an unhinged acolyte patient in an asylum with an obsession for drinking blood, deluded into thinking he will find immortality.

The movie is a modern story with a comedic twist that offers a turning point for Reinfeld.

It follows Renfield is fed up after centuries of procuring Dracula’s prey and doing his bidding. He is ready to move but first,  he needs to figure out how to end his codependency with his master.

The character has appeared numerous times on screen and has been portrayed by actors such as Dwight Frye in 1931’s “Dracula” and Tom Waits in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 adaptation.

Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez also star in the movie.

Chris McKay is directing from a script by Ryan Ridley and a story by “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman.

McKay and Kirkman are producing alongside David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst with McKay’s producing partner, Samantha Nisenboim, exec producing.

Moreover, Universal is also developing a Wolf Man remake, which stars Ryan Gosling in the titular role and is directed by Leigh Whannell.
