Sony Pictures has moved the release date of the “Karate Kid” reboot from June 7, 2024, to December 13, 2024.

While the franchise has lived on thanks to Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” series, the new “Karate Kid” project will be the franchise’s first movie offering since a 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith.

The 2024 movie does not yet have a synopsis from the studio or a cast and crew attached.

The original movie was released in 1984 and starred Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso. It followed Daniel after he and his mother move from New Jersey to California, where he takes up karate lessons from a maintenance man named Mr. Miyagi (the late Pat Morita) to protect himself against a band of bullies and Cobra Kai karate students led by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

The new release date comes in the middle of a major slate shuffle from Sony Pictures due to the ongoing dual strike.

The Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA are currently fighting for their rights as their members weren’t paid a fair wage for the hard work they put into the movies and television series that entertain the world.

The strike has already delayed multiple productions, and it will continue to do so until studios decide to approach their workers with a fair deal.
